Participant Job Description

PRC July 2020 Meeting: Running Club Equitability
Participant Job Description

Overview

The Public Run Club (“PRC”) is a running community that helps womxn know, trust, and enjoy their bodies through running.

The club’s mission is to help womxn untangle from a complicated relationship with exercise and their bodies by supporting them in engaging with the narratives they’ve received about their body and about other bodies as they train. The club’s programs are designed to invite runners to confront, challenge, and rewrite the stories of their bodies through the sport of running.

The club is coached and managed by Karly Borden (the sole employee of the company and the sole content creator of the training programs).

With the goal of bringing forward more BIPOC and LBGTQIA+ leaders within PRC/the running community at-large, and to ensure people with these identities feel safe and supported within PRC/the running community at-large, Karly is recruiting 6 runners to share their experiences of PRC and other running communities, and to contribute to the club’s future roadmap during an initial meeting in July 2020. Ongoing/future meetings and participation will be decided on by the 6 participants during the gathering.

With the understanding that a person’s body-relationship is shaped differently depending on the identities they hold, the club intends to continue hosting separate meetings that center the discussion on the experience of different identities.

July’s meeting will focus on the experience of runners who are Black, Indigenous, and People of Color. This will be a closed meeting between Karly and the 6 runners.

Purpose

Going forward, PRC is committed to supporting BIPOC leaders within PRC/the running community at-large, and to ensure people with these identities feel safe and supported within PRC/the running community at-large.

The purpose of this meeting is to explore how PRC/the running community at-large can best coach, train, and support individuals in a way that centers the experiences of womxn runners of all levels and abilities who are Black, Indigenous, People of Color. We use the word womxn to include transgender, nonbinary, womxn of color, womxn with disabilities and all other marginalized genders.

Applications will be reviewed and selected by Karly and a third party, who will prioritize applications from womxn BIPOC runners.
